All is Quiet
my pulse beats
and i see the tall tree
standing alone on a mountain of stumps
in the sun
beautiful
my pulse beats
and i see her face
fighting to have people see the trees
see her
the land and the people both forgotten
not valued
always enterprise, always money
never love
love is not valued
love
i can only feel this sadness that i cannot put into words
when i am by the water, it seems sweet somehow, the world is utterly beautiful
magical
it can hold my pain
i breathe in and out by the rivers edge
and it seems to be the only place to be
toes in the water
rocks painted by the water
reds, and whites and blue greys
slippery
the rough water dangerous
but teenagers playing and mothers and children
and you, your long white braid straight down your back
i watch as you wade into the water
i watch and you surprise me with a graceful flip
feet only surfacing straight up
you are a mermaid
and you know these waters
perhaps you have come here all your life
i smile at you
you smile back
this too is the fight, being together in these waters
on this earth
outside of our roles we play
unamed
almost without clothes
i find where i belong
in that smile
it is okay to be home
pulse beats
pulse beats
nothing makes sense indoors
take me to the river
where the sun welcomes me
and the trees
and in all that is silent
there is speech
